So, you’ve had a look around our site and are interested in learning more or taking the next step? If you’re aged 12 (Year 8) – 18 years old and feel that you have the motivation to succeed and could make a regular commitment, we would be keen to hear from you.
As an Air Cadet the opportunities are endless. Whether you want airborne activities including powered flying and gliding, where you can gain your Wings or whether you wish to keep you feet on the ground, there is an activity to suit you. As a cadet not only will you be able to experience a wealth of different activities, as part of your training, you will gain accredited qualifications and learn new skills, which will be of use for life.
Air Cadet units are open to anyone aged 12 (Year 8) -18. No prior experience or interests are necessary just a desire to learn new things and broaden your horizons. Cadets join for a number of reasons, for the fun, for friends, for interest in military or civil aviation, to see what military life is like or just to do something a bit different. The organisation will give you lots of opportunities but it is up to the individual Cadet to make the most of those chances. Cadets must commit to attending regularly both parade nights and events.
Every spring/summer 497 Squadron has a big recruiting campaign but this does not mean you cannot join at any time of the year. We welcome personal visits by potential cadets (ideally accompanied by a parent or guardian), during one of our Parade Nights which are held on Mondays and Fridays. Just come along and see if you like it – you don’t have to join, but at least check out what you might be missing.
You should be aware that the majority of our training takes place on Monday and Thursdays between 19.30 hrs (7.30 p.m.) and 21.30 hrs (9.30 pm).
Please check out our location to ensure that its is practical for you to travel to and from the Headquarters.
There are 3 ways to proceed:
- Come and see us. By far the best way is to come down and see us on a Monday or Thursday evening. We’ll show you around, answer your questions and you can get stuck in straight away.
- Give us a call. If you want to ask us a question before coming down then give us a call. We have an answering machine 24/7, leave a message and we’ll call you back or if you want to speak to someone then give us a call during our parade times by telephoning, 01327 310113. Alternatively, you may call Wing Headquarters, weekdays between 0900 hrs and 1700 hrs (9am-5pm) on Telephone,: (024) 7685 4934.
- Use our online form. Our Contact Us Form enables you to send us a message and we’ll get back to you quickly and try and answer any questions you may have.
If you don’t live close to our Squadron then don’t miss out or give up! There are ATC Squadrons throughout the country, it’s likely you’ve got one near you. Have a look on Air Cadet Squadron Finder or the Air Cadet Website for further information.
